CONWAY, S.C. – The No. 15-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team split on the final day of the Chanticleer Challenge, falling against No. 4 Cal Poly, 5-0, but earning a 4-1 win over Georgia State in its weekend finale.
Florida Atlantic moves to 10-2 overall, while Cal Poly improved to 10-2 overall and Georgia State fell to 4-8 on the season.
The Sandy Owls opened the day with a top-five matchup against No. 4-ranked Cal Poly. FAU battled but fell 5-0.
FAU closed the weekend with a 4-1 win over Georgia State.
Cameron Knifton and
Allison Spittal got things started, earning a 21-13, 21-12 straight-set sweep on court five.
Reese Edwards and
Kendall Mignerey extended the Owls' lead to 2-0 after earning a three-set win at the 4s, 21-14, 12-21, 15-12.
Denisse Morgenstern and
Shantel Starling clinched the dual for the Owls, earning the second straight-set win of the match on court two, 21-19, 21-17.
Klaire VanDeusen and
Mia Scanlon pushed the Owls' lead to 4-0 after securing another straight-set win on court three, 21-13, 21-15. The Panthers eventually got on the board with a win on court one, but it was not enough to overcome the Owls' 4-1 win.
