MIAMI – Florida Atlantic baseball (15-14) left 10 runners on base on Tuesday night in a 9-1 defeat at the hands of FIU (9-20). This was the final meeting of the season between the Owls and the Panthers. Florida Atlantic won three of the four matchups.
THE BEGINNING
Despite just three hits on the night, the FAU offense had plenty of opportunities to score. The Owls left at least one runner on in each of the first six innings.
While the Owls couldn't cash in on their chances, FIU was also held in check for the first three innings by Florida Atlantic lefty
Dalton Robinson. Making his second consecutive midweek start, Robinson did not allow a hit until the third inning. The Panthers finally broke through with two runs in the fourth.
THE TURNING POINT/THE FINISH
The Owls got one back when
Kyle Boylston scored from third on a wild pitch in the fifth, but FIU quickly pulled away with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and another pair in the sixth. Finally, they sent 10 to the plate in a five-run seventh to build a 9-1 lead. The Owls recorded their last hit with one out in the sixth.
THE BATS
- Marshall Lipsey had two of the Owls' three hits. Kyle Boylston recorded the other hit with one out in the first inning.
