BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball scored five runs in the eighth inning to walk off Presbyterian 12-2 via the run-rule on Tuesday night. The Owls have won four straight and will look to sweep the two-game midweek series on Wednesday.
THE BEGINNING
The Owls (10-6) scored twice in the opening inning while recording just a single hit. With the bases loaded and no outs,
Brando Leroux was hit by a pitch. A
Patrick Ward sacrifice fly brought in the second run. Three more came across in the second inning.
Ian Collier sparked the offense with a leadoff double,
Kyle Boylston singled, and both players scored on a ground ball from
Marshall Lipsey that resulted in a throwing error by the second baseman. Leroux would eventually cash in his second RBI in as many innings with a single up the middle to score Lipsey and make it 5-0.
THE TURNING POINT
Presbyterian (2-15) chipped away with two runs in the third inning, but the Owls' bullpen shut it down from that point forward.
Dalton Robinson held the Blue Hose scoreless in the fourth and fifth.
Brayden Gilson took over in the sixth and followed suit with three clean frames.
THE FINISH
It was 7-2 Florida Atlantic going into the bottom of the eighth. After two singles and a walk loaded the bases,
Brett Patten roped a double into the right-centerfield gap to bring all three runners home.
Ian Collier followed with a two-run home run to end the game on the 10-after-7 run-rule.
