BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball downed Presbyterian 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon to complete a two-game midweek sweep. The Owls have won five straight heading into this weekend's series with UMBC.
THE BEGINNING
Presbyterian (2-16) scored in the first inning before the Owls (11-6) responded with two runs in the second. A walk and an infield single preceded a throwing error by the PC first baseman. Florida Atlantic added the second run on a groundout double play.
THE TURNING POINT
The Owls began to pull away with two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth. An RBI double to left center off the bat of
TJ Gramesty in the fourth drove in
Eli Small from second base.
Marshall Lipsey followed with a single up the middle to cash in Gramesty. In the fifth,
Xavier Moronta sent an opposite-field, two-out double to the left field corner and scored when
Patrick Ward poked a single through the right side to make it 5-1.
THE FINISH
Lipsey launched his second home run of the season with one out in the sixth. The two-run blast into the bullpen in right field put the Owls up 7-1. PC scored a consolation run in the eighth, but the home side held on to complete the two-game sweep.
