BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic softball team came out on top in another gritty outing, beating Wisconsin by a score of 4-3 on Saturday night at FAU Softball Stadium.
With the win, the Owls (3-0) keep their undefeated start to the 2026 season alive, with all three victories coming against Big Ten opponents. They held off a late Badgers rally (2-1) in the top of the seventh inning to hand them their first loss of the season.
Freshman
Makenna Lee started in her collegiate debut and pitched an effective 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits to go with three strikeouts. Senior pitcher
Autumn Courtney then entered in relief, making her third appearance in as many days, to earn the victory.
THE BEGINNING
Lee struck out a Badger batter and did not allow a run in her first collegiate inning. Sophomore second baseman
Destiny Johns leaped to record the out in the top of the second.
Sophomore
Lily Holtje hit a double to left center to lead off the bottom of the second frame and she was brought home on a hard-hit ball to the pitcher from redshirt senior shortstop
McKenna Mulholland for the game's first run.
THE TURNING POINT
Two more runs were on board in the bottom of the third, with redshirt junior outfielder
Kylie Hammonds coming home on a wild pitch and senior third baseman
Jesiana Mora scoring on the groundout.
Lee did not allow a hit for the first three innings. With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, Courtney checked in and only allowed one run to keep the Owls up 3-1.
THE FINISH
Courtney struck out two batters on the way to a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth inning and Mora brought home Hammonds with an RBI double in the bottom half to build a 4-1 lead.
A two-run home run by the Badgers in the top of the seventh made it a one-run game, and another hit put Wisconsin on base. Courtney then punched two out to shut the door on the comeback and secure the Owls' victory.
