BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's softball team went 2-0 on day three of the Joan Joyce Classic, first run-ruling Villanova by a score of 9-1 before defeating Southern Indiana, 7-1 on Saturday.
The Owls (11-5) extended their win streak to five games, outscoring their opponents 31-3 over the last two days.
GAME ONE
For the second time this season, redshirt junior outfielder
Kylie Hammonds launched a leadoff home run. In the very next at-bat, redshirt senior shortstop
McKenna Mulholland hit a solo shot of her own for a 2-0 lead. The Owls capitalized on errors by the Wildcats (0-14) for two more runs before the end of the inning.
Mulholland's second homer of the day was a no-doubter three-run blast in the bottom of the second to go up 7-0. FAU scored once in each of the third and fourth innings to set up the team's second straight five-inning run-rule victory.
In the circle, senior
Madison Inscoe allowed four hits while delivering four strikeouts in four innings to move to 4-0 on the year.
GAME TWO
After the Screaming Eagles (2-9) scored a run in the top of the first inning, Mulholland came home in the bottom half after a hit followed by a double from sophomore
Lily Holtje and a sacrifice fly RBI by her classmate
Destiny Johns. The Owls then took a lead on a two-run double from senior first baseman
Yani Guzman.
The Owl bats woke up again in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI triple from Johns and a double by junior outfielder
Kiley Shelton to score consecutive runs. Junior
Karson Davey entered as a pitch hitter and drove in Shelton before the inning concluded.
Making the start, senior pitcher
