BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball (2-2) earned a 4-2 victory over Missouri (2-2) on Tuesday night at the FAU Baseball Stadium.
Kide Adetuyi delivered five solid innings in his first collegiate start, and
Nick Romano came through with a clutch home run in the seventh inning to lead the Owls back to the win column.
THE BEGINNING
Missouri did not record its first hit against Adetuyi until the fourth inning as the redshirt sophomore was in control for most of the night. Meanwhile, the FAU offense broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning. After back-to-back singles by
Michael Perazza and
Patrick Ward,
Xavier Moronta lined a base hit to left-center field for his first hit and RBI as an Owl. A sacrifice fly by
TJ Gramesty doubled the lead.
THE TURNING POINT
With just one hit allowed through five innings, Adetuyi went back out for the sixth inning. He recorded the first out before a softly hit infield single brought the tying run to the plate. Missouri's Jace Woita capitalized on the first mistake Adetuyi made all night. A two-run home run tied the game and signaled the end of the night for the Owls' lefthander.
It remained 2-2 until the bottom of the seventh when Romano untied it.
Brett Patten lined a one-out double, and Romano connected on the first pitch he saw for his first hit of the season – a towering blast that sailed over the scoreboard in right field.
THE FINISH
Kyzer Smith pitched a scoreless eighth before turning it over to
Bryan Boully for the ninth. Despite a two-out walk, the fifth-year senior locked down the Owls' second win of the season and earned his first career save in the process.
