BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team will host Tulane on Wednesday, Jan. 21, on ESPN+ at 7 p.m., followed by a trip to Tampa for a meeting with South Florida on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. on ESPN2.
Currently at the top of the American Conference standings, the Owls (13-6, 5-1) will look to build on their four-game winning streak, starting with their second matchup of the season versus the Green Wave (12-6, 3-2).
Wednesday at the Elly will be the program's second annual "Seinfeld Night," with recognition throughout the evening of the hit television show that has become synonymous with the team's success over the past four seasons.
FAU will travel to Tampa for the first matchup of the season between these two teams, facing the Bulls (11-7, 3-2), the No. 1 scoring team in the American.
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls extended their winning streak to a conference-best four games with a home win over Wichita State and a road victory versus Temple. FAU defeated Wichita State, 85-67, in a wire-to-wire win that saw four players score in double figures, led by sophomore guard
Isaiah Elohim and junior guard
Kanaan Carlyle with 18 apiece and redshirt sophomore forward
Devin Williams' first collegiate double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds). Another double-double was key to the 79-73 comeback on the road against Temple, this time from freshman guard
Josiah Parker with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Parker went nine-for-10 from the field and collected 10 boards in just 12 minutes of action in the second half on the way to his third American Freshman of the Week award.
ABOUT THE OWLS
- Head Coach John Jakus is in his second season at the helm of the program. In his debut campaign in 2024-25, he was a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award, given to the nation's top first-year head coach. Under Jakus' watch, the Owls participated in their fourth straight year of postseason play, selected to the 2025 National Invitational Tournament.
- FAU boasts eight international players. In total, the Owls are represented by seven different countries: the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Senegal, and France.
- Redshirt sophomore guard Devin Vanterpool has totaled two American Conference weekly honorable mentions in the midst of his career-best season. He leads FAU in points per game (15.4), rebounds per game (6.7), as well as steals (30) and three-pointers (36). His rebounds per game rank No. 5 nationally among guards 6'4 and shorter. Against Coastal Georgia, he scored 30 points, the first Owl to reach that mark since Johnell Davis in January of 2024. He has recorded two double-doubles, most recently against Memphis with a career-high 11 boards.
- One week after winning the Owls' first American Conference Player of the Week honor of the season, he earned an American Honorable Mention following the wins over Wichita State and Temple. Carlyle reached 500 collegiate career points on Dec. 13 against UAlbany, leading all active Owls. He is second on the team in points per game at 14.9.
- Parker, the American Conference's Preseason Freshman of the Year, leads the conference with three weekly freshman honors.
- As a team, the Owls are No. 8 in the nation in blocks per game (6.0). Redshirt sophomore forward Devin Williams is averaging 2.9 per game, No. 2 in the nation. On Jan. 11 against Memphis, he totaled seven blocks, one shy of the single-game program record.
- When playing at the Elly in the 2025-26 season, FAU is 8-1 and is averaging 94.8 points per game in the victories, winning by an average of 26 points.
ABOUT THE GREEN WAVE
- Head Coach Ron Hunter is in his sixth season at Tulane.
- Redshirt junior guard Rowan Brumbaugh is the Green Wave's top scorer at 18.9 points per game, second in the American, and leads the team in rebounds per game (4.9) as well as total assists (63) and steals (35).
- Senior guard Asher Woods, who had a 16-point game in the season's earlier matchup versus Florida Atlantic
- The Green Wave is successful at getting to the free-throw line, ranked No. 18 in the nation with 19.7 makes per game.
- After handing FAU its only conference loss this season back on Jan. 4 by a 69-66 score, Tulane leads the all-time series over the Owls, 8-2.
ABOUT THE BULLS
- The Bulls are led by Head Coach Bryan Hodgson in his first season.
- South Florida is the No. 1 scoring offense in the conference and No. 15 in the nation, averaging 91.1 points per game. The balanced scoring attack has five players averaging double figures, led by senior forward Izaiyah Nelson at 15.7 points per game.
- As a team, the Bulls are No. 8 nationally in steals per game (10.6) and No. 16 in rebounds per game (42.2).
- USF forces 16.6 turnovers per game while committing 11.3 of its own. The turnover margin of +5.3 is the ninth-best in the nation.
- While FAU trails the all-time series against USF 15-4, the Owls have won their last two meetings and swept the 2024-25 season series.
UP NEXT
The Owls will remain on the road with a trip to Memphis on Thursday, Jan. 29, with an 8 p.m. ET tip-off on ESPN2. They will then return to the Elly, hosting East Carolina on Sunday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
