BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic volleyball team picked up its third sweep of the season on Tuesday, earning a straight-set win over the North Florida Ospreys, 3-0, inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Owls and Ospreys battled back and forth to open the match, battling through a 14-14 stalemate. Back-to-back kills from
Madison Dyer and
Erin Morrissey sparked an 8-3 run for the Owls, giving Florida Atlantic a five-point lead, 22-17. North Florida responded with a 7-2 run to tie the set up at 24-24; however, Dyer tallied another kill, and the Owls capitalized on an Osprey error to take the opening set, 26-24.
Florida Atlantic jumped out to an early 6-3 lead to open the second, but the Ospreys answered back to quickly tie things up at 7-7. The set remained tight through a 10-10 stalemate before a 5-0 Owl run pushed Florida Atlantic back in front, 15-10. North Florida cut the FAU lead to four, 20-17, however, a kill from
Kayla Richardson sparked a 4-0 to give the Owls set point at 24-17. The Ospreys got one back, but a Richardson kill closed out the set, 25-18, to give Florida Atlantic the two-set lead, 2-0.
North Florida took the advantage early in the third, leading by one at 9-8. Florida Atlantic produced a 6-1 run, capped off by a pair of kills from
Olivia Hart and Morrissey, to quickly take a four-point lead at 14-10. An Owl error brought the lead down to three, 14-11, however, FAU scored eight unanswered to extend their lead to double digits, 22-11. The Ospreys got two back, but a pair of North Florida errors and a
Kierstin Bevelle kill closed out the match, 25-13, to clinch the straight-set win, 3-0.
STATS & NOTES
- The straight-set win marked the third sweep this season for the Owls
- Hart led the way offensively, recording a match-high 10 kills, while Dyer and Anna Hartman finished tied for second with seven kills apiece.
- Victoria Hensley dished out a team-leading 19 assists.
- Isabelle Northam finished with a team-high nine digs, while Maggie Allred and Kayla Richardson tied for a match-leading three blocks each.
- As a team, the Owls held advantages in points (52), kills (43), aces (5), blocks (4), and assists (41).
UP NEXT
Florida Atlantic will now prepare for its first road trip of the 2025 season as the Owls head north to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to compete in the Michigan Invitational on Sept. 5-6. The Owls open up play on Friday, Sept. 5, against Marshall at 12 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena and on B1G+.
