Volleyball Awarded 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic volleyball was recognized for its success in the classroom, earning the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, announced by the AVCA on Thursday.
"We challenge our student-athletes every day to be their best and win the day," expressed head coach Fernanda Nelson. "That means giving everything you have—on the court, in the classroom, and in everything you do. I'm incredibly proud of this team. They work hard, they support one another, and they pursue excellence every single day. This award reflects their commitment, discipline, and the incredible culture we've built together. They have earned this recognition through the way they compete, learn, and represent our program every day."
The honor marks the third time in Florida Atlantic's history that a team has received the AVCA academic honor, having also earned it in 2022, 2023, and 2025.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that demonstrated excellence in the classroom during the year by maintaining a cumulative team grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
The Florida Atlantic Owls open the 2026 season in 36 days as they host the Florida Atlantic Invitational on Aug. 28-29.
