BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls hit the road for the first time in 2025, heading to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to compete at the Michigan Invitational on Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6.
FAU will kick off the weekend against Marshall on Friday at 12 p.m. ET, before wrapping up its first day of competition against host Michigan at 7 p.m. ET. The Owls will wrap up the weekend on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET against Southern Indiana.
SCOUTING FLORIDA ATLANTIC
- Florida Atlantic finished its season-opening homestand 3-1 with three sweeps over Kent State, Western Carolina, and North Florida.
- Isabelle Northam had a phenomenal opening weekend, earning American Weekly Honorable Mention honors. Northam registered a team-leading 49 digs, averaging an impressive 5.44 digs per set, in addition to dishing out eight assists over the Owls' three matches.
- Erin Morrissey and Olivia Hart are leading the Owls offensively so far this season, tying for a team-best 38 kills, averaging 3.17 kills per set each.
- Anna Hartman and Madison Dyer have also been huge offensive contributors for the Owls this season, averaging 2.83 and 2.75 kills per set, respectively.
- Emsley Venard and Victoria Hensley FAU's leading setters, dishing out 7.50 and 6.17 assists per set, respectively.
- Defensively, Northam anchors the Owls' back row, averaging 5.0 digs per set, while Maggie Allred and Dyer lead the Owls in blocks, averaging 1.18 and 1.08 blocks per set, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
- Friday will mark the 14th all-time meeting between Florida Atlantic and Marshall. Marshall holds the series lead at 9-4, including a 3-1 win in the last meeting between the two programs on Oct. 9, 2021, in Boca Raton.
- Friday evening's matchup will mark the second all-time meeting between the Owls and the Wolverines. Michigan won the sole meeting between the two teams, 3-1, on Aug. 29, 2003, in Tallahassee.
- Saturday's weekend finale will mark the first meeting between FAU and Southern Indiana.
SCOUTING MARSHALL
- Marshall is 3-0 to start the season, earning wins against Kansas City, 3-0, Eastern Michigan, 3-1, and Radford, 3-1.
- The Thundering Herd is led offensively by Emma Barnett, averaging 3.27 kills per set so far this season.
- Marshall also runs a 6-2 offense, led by setters Bella Thompson and Maya Hunt. Thompson boasts a team-best 5.55 assists per set, while Hunt has dished out 4.18 assists per set.
- Defensively, the Thundering Herd's back row is led by libero Emma Sayre, averaging 4.0 digs per set.
- At the net, Marshall's blocking leader is Beatrice Ciccarelli, tallying 1.27 blocks per set this season.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
- Michigan also enters the weekend with a 3-0 record, earning wins against Wake Forest, 3-1, Cincinnati, 3-1, and Eastern Michigan, 3-0.
- The Wolverines are led offensively by Allison Jacobs, averaging 4.91 kills per set this season.
- The Wolverines' assists leader is Morgan Burke, dishing out 66 assists, averaging 6.0 assists per set. Camille Edwards boasts a team-leading 6.6 assists per set and ranks second on the team with 33 assists this season.
- Defensively, Michigan is led on the back row by Maddi Cuchran, who has recorded 3.73 digs per set. At the net, the Wolverines are led by Serena Nyambio, Jenna Hanes, and Lydia Johnson, recording 1.09, 0.82, and 0.73 blocks per set, respectively.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN INDIANA
- Southern Indiana is 1-2 to start the season, falling in straight-sets against Valparaiso, 3-0, and Saint Louis, 3-0, before earning their first win and sweep of the season against Northern Kentucky, 3-0.
- The Screaming Eagles' offense is led by Ashby Willis, averaging 3.56 kills per set, in addition to Bianca Anderson and Carley Wright, averaging 2.89 and 2.22 kills per set this season.
- Southern Indiana's assists leader is Aysa Thomas, who has dished out 81 assists, averaging 9.0 assists per set.
- Aubrey Small leads the Screaming Eagles backline, averaging 4.33 digs per set, while Mackenzie Murphy leads the team in blocks, recording 1.33 blocks per set.
UP NEXT
Following the Michigan Invitational, the Owls will remain on the road as they return to the Sunshine State to compete in the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Florida, on Sept. 12-13.
