MIAMI, Fla. --Â Five things you need to know before the Owls battle in-state foe FIU Saturday night in Miami at 6 p.m.
5. How to Watch & Listen – You can listen live to the Florida Atlantic Sports Network with Voice of the Owls Ken LaVicka and former Owl offensive lineman Chris Newbold locally on FOX Sports 640 and via the FOX Sports 640 app. The pregame show begins at 5:30 p.m. ET with Mike Mrezcko taking you up to kickoff. The game is also streamed on ESPN+.
4. Giving Mood – Flagler Credit Union is sponsoring this season's Touchdowns for Charity initiative, donating $200 for every Owls touchdown to the Power of Sports, a local Boca organization that helps provide sports participation to all. To date, Flagler Credit Union has donated $1,600 thanks to the Owls' eight TDs through two games.
3. Wa-seem You in the End Zone – Redshirt sophomore Asaad Waseem, a Colorado transfer, has reeled in a team-leading three receiving touchdowns this season. With three receiving TDs, the Apopka, Fla., native leads the conference and ranks tied for third nationally. Waseem has four grabs in each of the Owls first two games, with 70 yards and a TD at Maryland, and following that with 55 yards and two scores last week versus Florida A&M.
2. No Flags Allowed – The Owls have committed just nine penalties through two games, the second fewest in the conference behind Army and the 26th fewest nationally.
1. Shula Bowl – Florida Atlantic has won seven consecutive games over FIU and leads the all-time series 17-4. Initiated by Hall of Fame head coach Howard Schnellenberger, the Shula Bowl is named for Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula, who had connections to the first head coaches for each FAU and FIU. Schnellenberger was an assistant under Shula in the 1970s, and FIU's first head coach, Don Strock, played for Shula.
