GREENVILLE, N.C. – Florida Atlantic baseball racked up 18 hits in a 14-1, seven-inning victory over East Carolina on Saturday afternoon in North Carolina. The Owls (22-9, 4-4) locked up the series and will try to sweep the Pirates (20-12, 6-2) in the finale on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls scored early and often, hitting for the cycle as a team in the first inning. After launching a solo home run on the first pitch of the game on Friday,
Marshall Lipsey kickstarted the offense again with a bunt single to lead off the game.
Patrick Ward laced a triple to the left field gap to open the scoring.
Jake Duer provided the double to make it 2-0, and
Dylan LaPointe capped off the team cycle with an opposite-field two-run home run.
ECU recorded its first hit of the game – a solo home run – in the second inning. The Owls responded with a
John Schroeder three-run homer in the third to make it 7-1. They would bust the game open with a five-run fifth inning. The backbreaking hit was a bases-loaded, three-RBI double by
Jake Millan. Millan and
John Martinez would later score on an ECU error to put the Owls up 12-1.
Duer launched his second home run of the season in the sixth, and the Owls tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh (14-1). With the run-rule in place, starter
