No. 18 Sandy Owls Close Regular Season With Sweeps of SJSU and Tarleton State

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 18 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team earned back-to-back sweeps over San Jose State, 5-0, and Tarleton State, 5-0, to close out regular season play on Saturday.
With the wins, FAU finishes the regular season at 17-14 overall and 4-2 in CUSA play, while San Jose State falls to 12-17 overall and 6-2 in Southland Conference play, and Tarleton State drops to 5-14 on the season and 0-3 in CUSA play.
In the first match of the day, Klaire VanDeusen and Shayna Wolf got things started for the Sandy Owls, putting FAU on the scoreboard first with a 21-12, 24-22 win on court four. Julie Honzovicova and Kate McLaughlin extended Florida Atlantic's lead to 2-0, winning in two at the 2s, 21-18, 21-15. FAU clinched the match on court three as Sydney Schroder and Olivia Strandberg won 21-15, 21-18. Kendall Mignerey and Shantel Starling picked up the fourth point for FAU, winning in three sets at the No. 5 position, 21-15, 17-21, 15-12, and Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova earned their 20th pair win of the season to close out the 5-0 sweep, claiming a straight-set win at the 1s, 21-8, 21-14.
The Owls closed out the regular season with a 5-0 sweep over Tarleton State. Klaire VanDeusen and Shayna Wolf secured the Sandy Owls' first point with a 21-16, 21-13 win on court four. Julie Honzovicova and Kate McLaughlin once again made it 2-0 FAU with their fourth win of the weekend, 21-15, 21-8. Kendall Mignerey and Maddie Sides clinched the dual for the Owls, winning in two on court five, 21-10, 21-11. Cameron Knfiton and Marketa Svozilova swept at the 1s, 21-13, 21-17, to make it 4-0 FAU, and then Sydney Schroder and Olivia Strandberg closed out the 5-0 sweep with a dominant 21-6, 21-11 straight-set win on court three.
