SAN ANTONIO – The No. 22 Florida Atlantic softball team achieved its third American Athletic Conference sweep of the season with an 11-2 run-rule victory over UTSA on Sunday.
With two more out-of-the-park shots in the series finale, the Owls (32-5, 11-1) finished the weekend with eight home runs as they outscored the Roadrunners (14-19, 2-10) 38-5 over three games, each ending after just five innings.
Junior pitcher
Autumn Courtney made the start and recorded the win to move to 15-1. After two singles in the first two innings by the Roadrunners, the committee of Courtney, junior
Jaden Martinez, and senior
Ainsley Lambert held them hitless the rest of the way.
For the second straight day, redshirt sophomore outfielder
Kylie Hammonds drew a leadoff walk to open the game. Following a single by freshman
Destiny Johns to put a second runner on base, junior third baseman
Jesiana Mora launched a bomb to the scoreboard, her third home run of the weekend, for a 3-0 lead.
After giving up two runs in the bottom the first, the Owls responded in the top of the second with a solo homer from Hammonds.
The top of the third saw four more FAU runs. Sophomore right fielder
Ciara Gibson completed her weekend cycle with a leadoff double to open the inning. This led to a no-out, bases loaded hit by pitch RBI for the freshman outfielder
Bella Foran for the frame's first score.
With two outs, four Owls were driven in on back-to-back singles from Johns and Mora to pad the lead to 9-2.
Double digits were delivered in the top of the fourth, set up by junior
Yani Guzman's walk and a double by sophomore first baseman
Bella Cimino. Sophomore
Kiley Shelton had a pinch hit single to left field to score Guzman.
Hammonds then recorded her second hit of the day, bringing home Cimino for the final run of the weekend.
- For the first time in program history, the Owls posted double-digit runs in all three games of a league series. They also achieved a run-rule victory in three games versus a conference foe, not done by the program since 1996.
- After the offense-heavy weekend, Florida Atlantic now leads the AAC in batting average (.324), runs (246), and hits (330). Defensively, they continue to place at the top of the league in ERA (2.47), strikeouts (208), and fielding percentage (.982).
- Mora finishes the weekend 5-for-10 at the plate with three home runs and 10 RBI. She takes the 2025 team-lead in homers with seven.
- Hammonds went 2-for-3 with three runs, a home run, two RBI, and a walk. She has reached base in 33 out of 37 games this season.
