No. 70 Owls Take Seven-Match Winning Streak on the Road

BOCA RATON Fla. – No. 70 Florida Atlantic men's tennis began its seven-match winning streak with a road win. This week, the Owls will return to the road hoping to extend the streak with a match on Friday, March 28 at 3 p.m. versus host Liberty and will then head to Charlotte for a Saturday, March 29 match at 12 p.m.
The Owls are coming off 6-1 victory over fellow American Athletic Conference member Tulane last Sunday and celebrated sophomore Mark Halvicek earning AAC Player of the Week honors on Tuesday. Heading into the match, the Owls will be led by senior John Bernard, who is featured HERE. Bernard will enter the weekend holding a 6-6 dual match record playing on the top court.
Freshman Segundo Goity Zapico has been a star thus far, clinching matches as the last in progress. He is the first FAU player to record double-digit wins. Entering the weekend, Zapico has a 10-6 dual record and is one win shy of 20 overall with a 19-11 mark. Fellow freshman Jan Kusy is close behind with an 8-7 singles dual match record while the reigning AAC Player of the Week Havlicek has an 8-6 record.
Doubles play has been led by freshmen Marek Pazdera who is 9-3 on the year and Lucca Pignaton, who is 9-5.
The all-time series with Liberty stands at 2-2, with the Flames winning the last contest 4-3, back on March 27, 2024. Charlotte leads the all-time series 5-3 and were the 4-3 winners of last seasons match played at the 2024 AAC Championship.

The Owls will host Georgia State on Tuesday, Mar. 18 at 11 a.m. and will then serve as host to East Tennessee State on Wednesday, Mar. 19 at 5 p.m.
