No. 14 Sandy Owls Split on Day One of Stetson Beach Blast

DELAND, Fla. – The No. 14 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team split matches against Palm Beach Atlantic and No. 7 Florida State on Friday. The Sandy Owls earned their second sweep of the season against the Sailfish, 5-0 but fell in a 5-0 sweep against the No. 7 Seminoles to close out day one of the Stetson Beach Blast.

Ashleigh Adams and Mia Scanlon got things started for the Sandy Owls, earning their first career win as a pair with a straight-set sweep against Palm Beach Atlantic's top pair, 21-12, 21-15. Shantel Starling and Sydney Schroder extended Florida Atlantic's lead to 2-0, taking a 21-15, 21-15 two-set win on court five. Kate McLaughlin and Kendall Mignerey clinched the win for the Sandy Owls, earning another straight-set victory at the No. 3 position, 21-13, 21-19. Shayna Wolf and Maddie Sides secured the fourth point for Florida Atlantic, taking a two-setter on court four, 21-19, 21-15. Klaire VanDeusen and Julie Honzovicova closed out the match for FAU, winning in three on court two, 21-13, 19-21, 15-9.
