BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 13 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team opens its home slate this weekend, hosting the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational on Friday through Sunday, March 14-16, at the Pompano Beach Pier.
Florida Atlantic enters this weekend's beach invitational with an 8-4 overall record and a 1-1 mark in CUSA play. The Sandy Owls are coming off their toughest weekend of the season, earning a win over Boise State, 3-2 but falling in three hard-fought top 20 matchups against No. 4 TCU, 4-1, No. 7 Florida State, 3-2, and No. 13 Texas. 3-2.
The Owls kick off play in the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational on Saturday, March 15, against CUSA foe UAB for a 10:30 a.m. first serve. The Sandy Owls are 10-1 all-time against the Blazers, having won the last 10 straight contests between the two teams. Florida Atlantic will wrap up its first day at 4:45 p.m. against No. 20 Georgia State. The Owls trail the Panthers 10-12 all-time and are 1-2 when playing GSU at home.
Florida Atlantic will kick off day two on Sunday against four-time reigning national champion and No. 4-ranked USC for an 11 a.m. first serve. FAU will look to earn their first win against the Trojans, trailing 0-7 all-time against USC. The weekend will close with a rematch against No. 3 TCU at 3 p.m. The Owls trail 4-7 all-time against TCU, however, the series is tied 1-1 when playing at home.
