DELAND, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men's tennis played their first of four matches versus an in-state foe on Thursday afternoon, with host Stetson coming away with the 4-3 win.

The Owls have three dual match decisions thus far, each coming down to the final court in a best-of-seven format and each time. FAU stands at 0-3 on the year, while Stetson moves to 4-1.

FAU dropped the doubles point to Stetson and entered singles play a man down due to illness. Everyone moved up a spot in an effort to challenge the Hatters. Stetson took court six to build a 2-0 lead. FAU newcomer Segundo Goity Zapico recorded an Owl win on court #2 to pull within one at 2-1 Stetson. The one-point lead quickly moved to 3-1 with a Hatter win on court #4. Owl sophomore Simon Myslivec closed out a tight first set then his match at 7-5, 6-3 to lessen the Hatter's lead to 3-2 with two courts still in play and both fighting to a third set.

Florida Atlantic newcomer Jan Kusy, playing on court #3, outdueled his opponent to capture his match 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(10-8) and evened the team score at 3-3, with the team victory coming down to court #1. Stetson took the court 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and ultimately the match at 4-3.
