No. 16 Sandy Owls Open 2025 Season at Tampa Invite

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 16-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team is set to open its 2025 season this weekend in Tampa, Florida, competing at the Tampa Invite on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22.
Florida Atlantic finished the 2024 season 18-19 overall after closing out its season in the CUSA Championship semifinals. The Sandy Owls 2025 squad features 13 returners, two transfers, and four true freshmen. The Sandy Owls return all three CUSA First Team All-Conference honorees in Ashleigh Adams, Julie Honzovicova, and Marketa Svozilova, as well as CUSA All-Freshman Team honoree Olivia Strandberg. In addition to the Sandy Owls impressive list of returners, the Sandy Owls added Long Beach State transfer, Kate Stoughton, and two-time national champion and USC transfer, Klaire VanDeusen.
The Sandy Owls open up the season on Friday, Feb. 21, against No. 14 Washington at 11 a.m. Friday's season opener will mark the first-ever meeting between the Sandy Owls and the Huskies. Florida Atlantic will close out its opening day against south Florida rival and CUSA foe No. 17 FIU at 3 p.m. The Sandy Owls trail the Panthers 7-18 all-time, however, the Sandy Owls won the last meeting between the two teams during the 2024 CUSA Championship, capturing a 3-2 victory.
Florida Atlantic will then begin play on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. against tournament host Tampa. The Sandy Owls are 4-1 all-time against Tampa. The Spartans won the last meeting between the two teams in a 3-2 battle last season on Feb. 24, 2024. Florida Atlantic will then close out its opening weekend against No. 13 Georgia State at 2 p.m. The Sandy Owls trail 9-12 all-time against Georgia State but have won four of the last six meetings. Florida Atlantic and Georgia State split their two meetings last season, with the Sandy Owls winning 4-1 on Feb. 23, 2024, while the Sandy Panthers won 3-2 on March 6, 2024, in the last meeting between the two teams.
