BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's softball team fell to Villanova by a score of 1-0 on Friday afternoon, their first loss of the 2025 season.
Though the Owls move to 7-1 on the year after a defensive-oriented outing, they maintain their best start to a campaign since 2016.
Junior pitcher
Autumn Courtney made the start in the circle and picked up right where she left off from her stellar weekend, with her first five outs recorded coming from strikeouts.
After Villanova struck first with an unearned run in the top of the third, senior
Ainsley Lambert entered in relief for Courtney and made quick work of the Wildcat batters, striking out five of her first seven. She allowed zero hits and no runs in 3.2 innings to maintain her 0.00 ERA.
The Owls rallied in the bottom of the seventh, putting put runners on second and third base, but could not complete the comeback.
- Courtney and Lambert combined for 13 strikeouts, tying the Owls season-high
- This marked the third outing of the season in which Florida Atlantic allowed zero earned runs
- Bella Foran, freshman outfielder, added a hit to up her team lead to 12 on the season
- Freshman Sophia Camacho entered as a pinch runner and recorded her first career stolen base
The Owls will take the field twice for day three of the Joan Joyce Classic on Saturday. They first face off against NC State on Friday, Feb. 14 at 3:45 p.m. followed by a late-night outing against Dartmouth, tentatively scheduled for
