Florida Atlantic Goes 2-0 on the Day
2/16/2025 12:45:00 AM | Softball
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's softball team picked up a pair of victories on day three of the Joan Joyce Classic, taking down NC State and Dartmouth.
The Owls move to 9-1 on the season, coming from behind to overtake the NC State Wolfpack by a score of 4-3, before the 2-0 win over the Big Green to conclude the evening.
But it was the bottom of the third where the Owls came soaring back. It took the opening three batters to load the base. Following two quick outs, sophomore shortstop Kiley Channell stepped up to the plate and took advantage of a NC State error to bring home sophomore OF Kiley Shelton. With the bases still loaded, it was junior Chloe Yeatts who became the hero of the matchup, blasting a hit across center field to clear the bases for the three-run double to put the Owls up 4-3.
No runs were found by either team for the rest of the matchup. Senior pitcher Ainsley Lambert entered in relief and picked up her first official save of the season after allowing one hit in three innings of work.
It took until the bottom fourth inning for offense to get going, when Channell launched a ball that nearly cleared the fence but ultimately settled for a triple. The following batter, junior third baseman Jesiana Mora, hit an RBI single to put Florida Atlantic on the board. Another run came in the bottom of the fifth, set up by junior IF Yani Guzman's first career double that led to the RBI from redshirt sophomore OF Kylie Hammonds.
