BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team will officially tip off the 2025-26 season with a matchup against Boston College at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Monday, Nov. 3. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
For the third time in program history, a power conference opponent will make a trip to the Elly. Both previous opponents are also ACC members: with Miami in 2021 and Virginia Tech in 1993.
The Owls are coming off a 110-68 exhibition victory over Florida Tech on Thursday, Oct. 30, where the team shot 59% from the field and boasted five double digit scorers.
Sponsoring the home opener is Flagler Credit Union. Every fan in attendance will receive a free rally towel.
ABOUT THE OWLS
- Jakus enters his second season at the helm of the program. In his debut campaign in 2024-25, he was a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award, given to the nation's top first-year head coach. Under Jakus' watch, the Owls participated in their fourth straight year of postseason play, selected to the 2025 National Invitational Tournament.
- Returning for the Owls are redshirt junior guard Niccolo Moretti, redshirt sophomore guard Devin Vanterpool, and redshirt freshman guards Amar Amkou, Liam Dayco-Green, and Max Langenfeld.
- Moretti dished out 115 assists during the 2024-25 season and had just 44 turnovers, ranked 28th nationally in assist/turnover ratio.
- The Owls welcome 10 newcomers: four true freshmen, four from the transfer portal, and two international players.
- Josiah Parker was named the American Conference's Preseason Freshman of the Year.
- As a team, Florida Atlantic was ranked sixth in the American's preseason poll.
- In total, the Owls are represented by seven different countries: the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Senegal, and France.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
- Head Coach Earl Grant begins his fifth season with the team. The Eagles made the 2024 ACC title game and the NIT under his leadership.
- Redshirt junior guard Donald Hand Jr. returns to the program after winning the 2024-25 ACC Most Improved Player of the Year. He was the team's leading scorer and rebounder at 15.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, respectively.
- Graduate guard Chase Forte, a transfer from South Dakota, is the reigning defensive player of the year from his previous conference after averaging 1.9 steals per game.
- Redshirt sophomore Jayden Hastings is back with the Eagles after finishing 10th in the conference in blocks (39).
- FAU and Boston College have faced off three previous times, last occurring on November 17, 2013 with the Owls coming up short by a score of 82-79.
UP NEXT
The Owls will embark on their first road trip of the season, competing in the third year of the Field of 68 Tipoff with Liberty and Charleston. This year's edition will be held in Lynchburg Va., with FAU facing Charleston on Saturday, Nov. 8 and Liberty on Sunday, Nov. 9. Both games will tipoff at 6 p.m. and air on YouTube.
