BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball dominated Towson 16-1 in Sunday's series finale to complete a three-game sweep.
Â
Towson scored first for the third straight game but FAU starter
Tyler Murphy limited the Tigers to just the lone run in what could have been a big inning for the visitors. Towson had the bases loaded with no outs but Murphy got a strikeout and a double play to escape.
Â
The offense immediately picked up their starting pitcher with four runs in the bottom of the first. RBI hits came from
Christian Adams, Andew McKenna, and
Emilio Gonzalez. The Owls sent nine to the plate in the first and repeated that feat in the second, tacking on four more.
Spencer Rich led off the frame with a home run to get it started. A two-RBI single by
Daulton Frank in the third inning moved the Owls into double digits and effectively put the dagger in the visiting Tigers.
Â
The Owls scored five runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth. Meanwhile, the FAU pitching stymied the Towson offense all day. After Murphy departed in the fourth, the bullpen combined to allow just two hits in five scoreless frames. Â
Â
- The Owls used seven pitchers starting with four solid innings from Murphy. The sophomore struck out three and allowed three hits. He received the win on a pitch count.
- Brandon Smith walked one but didn't allow a hit in the either the fifth or sixth.
