BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball fell behind early and could not recover in an 11-6 defeat to UCF on Tuesday. The Owls will turn around and take on UNF at home on Wednesday.

THE BEGINNING

The Owls drew first blood in the bottom of the first. A John Schroeder double to the right field gap scored Spencer Rich. UCF responded with a run in the second to tie it.

THE TURNING POINT

The Knights would break it open in the top of the third with seven runs. The big blow was a three-run homer off the bat of Andrew Estrella turning a manageable four-run deficit into a seven-run gap. UCF would tack on one in the fourth and two more in the sixth to pull away.

THE FINISH

The Owls scrapped and clawed to make the final respectable. Dylan LaPointe launched his first career homer in the seventh. Carter Brady drove in two with a single in the ninth and Jake Millan took the first pitch he saw over the right field fence to bring in another pair. The comeback ended there however as the Knights hung on.

THE ARMS

Braden Ostrander worked a scoreless first before running into trouble in the second and third. He struck out three and walked one.
Brandon Smith allowed four runs in his two innings of work.
Steven Andrews allowed two runs but limited the damage by pitching out of jam in the fifth inning.
Max Martzolf and Kyle Beaty held the Knights scoreless for the final three frames.

THE BATS

After Schroeder's double in the first, UCF starter Cade Boxrucker did not allow another baserunner.
Schroeder extended his hitting streak to seven games.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Owls and North Florida do battle at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
