BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's women's soccer team fell to Memphis 1-0 on a very rainy and windy Sunday evening in Boca Raton.
The Owls move to 2-9-4, 1-4-2 AAC. This marked the first time these two teams have faced each other since the Owls joined the American Athletic Conference in 2023. The last time FAU faced the Tigers was in a non-conference matchup on Sept. 8, 2022. Florida Atlantic moves to 0-4 against Memphis in program history.
The starting lineup for tonight remained the same as Thursday's match as freshman
Sutton Markee registered her second start in her collegiate career. Captain goalkeeper
Lexi Gonzalez started the match with a great save. In the 20th minute, the Tigers scored to get on the board and take the lead. Gonzalez ended the first 45 minutes with two saves.
In the second half, Markee took a shot with a chance to tie the match but the Tigers goalkeeper caught it for the save. On the Owls' side, Gonzalez finished with seven saves for the second game in a row. She now totals 42 saves on the season and improves her career total to 145. After Sunday's performance, Gonzalez is now one save shy of being able to jump the record book once again this season.
The Owls will hit the road to Philadelphia to take on the Owls of Temple on Thursday, Oct. 24. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+.
