BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls battled tough but fell in four, 3-1 (23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 21-25) on the road at Tulsa on Friday inside the Reynolds Center.
The Owls fall to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in AAC play, while Tulsa improves to 12-5 on the season and 4-1 in league play.
Tulsa took a 10-8 lead to open up the match. The Owls battled back, producing a 7-0 run to take a five-point lead, 15-10. The Golden Hurricane got three back making it 16-13 Florida Atlantic, but back-to-back kills from
Katelynn Robine and
Kaila Ru pushed the Florida Atlantic lead back to five, 18-13. Florida Atlantic held on to a three-point advantage through a 21-18 lead, but Tulsa closed the set on a 7-2 run to take the opening frame, 25-23.
The Owls battled the Golden Hurricane through a 5-5 tie to open the second. Tulsa then went on a 9-2 run to lead 14-7. Tulsa led 21-13 before the Owls mounted a 3-1 run to cut back within six, 22-16, but the Golden Hurricane eventually took the second 25-17 to lead 2-0.
Tulsa opened the third on a 10-6 run, but the Owls scored four unanswered to even up the set off a solo block from Ru, 10-10. Florida Atlantic continued their momentum through a 5-2 run to hold a three-point advantage at the third set media timeout. The Golden Hurricane got back within one, 16-15, but the Owls outscored the Golden Hurricane 9-4 to close out the set and send the match to a fourth, 25-15.
The Golden Hurricane opened set on a 12-6 run. The Owls battled back to close the set within a point at 14-13, but the Owls just couldn't find an answer to Tulsa's offense as the Owls eventually dropped the fourth 25-21 and fell 3-1.
- Valeria Rosado led the Owls 13 kills and secured a double-double with a season-high and team-leading 16 digs.
- Victoria Hensley dished out a match-leading 45 assists.
- Kaila Ru finished with a match-high eight blocks.
Florida Atlantic will head to Wichita, Kansas on Sunday to take on the Wichita State Shockers for a 2 p.m. first touch on ESPN+.
