BOCA RATON, Fla. – Playing under the lights for the second time in a week was not the original intent, but a match under the "Friday Night" lights allowed the Florida Atlantic Men's Tennis team (2-0) to shine with a 6-1 victory over Louisiana (1-0).
The match was originally scheduled for 3:30 p.m., but due to weather it got underway shortly before 5 p.m. and just after the stands had filled with fellow student-athletes celebrating the "Red and Blue" match as designated by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Florida Atlantic quickly secured the doubles point with decisive wins on courts one and two. Florida Atlantic then moved to singles play.
Alberto Colas was the first singles player to score with a 6-1, 6-0 court one victory. Colas improved his current winning streak to six, including his last four matches at the 2023 Conference USA Championship. Newcomer
Mark Havlicek set up the best-of-seven team win by winning on court five and fellow newcomer
John Bernard closed out the FAU victory by taking court six with a score of 6-1, 6-3. FAU held the match with a 4-0 lead. The Owls would win two of the final three matches for the final score.
Joao Graca captured court three and
Juan Martin Jalif powered back to win the first set in a tiebreaker and closed out his match 7-6 (7-3) to give FAU the 6-1.
