Owls Set for AAC Opener at North Texas

BOCA RATON, Fla. – This week is a huge week for Florida Atlantic volleyball as the Owls open up their inaugural American Athletic Conference schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 20 against the North Texas Mean Green. First serve is set for 6 p.m. ET inside the North Texas Volleyball Center and on ESPN+.

Scouting Florida Atlantic
- The Owls enter AAC play at 8-5 overall and are just coming off a 1-2 weekend at the FGCU Classic. The Owls earned a 3-0 sweep against Le Moyne before falling in straight sets to FGCU and Maryland.
- The Owls offensive leaders are Arianna Beckham, Romina Cornelio, Kaila Ru, and Katelynn Robine. Beckham leads all scorers with a team-best 104 kills this season, averaging 2.42 per set. Ru boasts a team-leading 2.59 kills per set and has recorded a team third-best 96 kills so far this season.
- Powering the Owls offense are Florida Atlantic setters Victoria Hensley and Noelle Stephens. Hensley boasts a team-leading 340 assists, averaging 7.73 assists per set, while Stephens has dished out 151 assists, averaging 4.19 per set.
- Florida Atlantic's back row is led by Owls' libero Isabelle Northam, who has tallied a team-leading 198 digs, averaging 4.50 digs per set. Cornelio ranks second on the team in digs, tallying 108 digs and recording 2.51 per set.
- Ru and Beckham are the Owls' blocking leaders with 37 and 30 blocks, averaging 1.0 and 0.70 blocks per set, respectively.
Scouting North Texas
- North Texas enters AAC play at 6-7 overall and are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the UTA Invitational. The Mean Green fell in straight sets against UT Arlington but closed out the weekend with a pair of sweeps over Texas A&M Commerce and McNeese.
- The Mean Green's offense is led by Treyaunna Rush, who has tallied a team-leading 145 kills, averaging 2.90 per set. Aryn Johnson and Coco Gillett have also registered triple-digit kills this season for North Texas, posting 111 kills and 101 kills, averaging 2.47 and 2.24 kills per set, respectively.
- The Mean Green offense runs through two setters in Ceci Harness and Kamryn Scroggins. Harness leads North Texas with 287 assists, averaging 5.74 per set, while Scroggins has dished out 226 assists, averaging 4.52 per set.
- Defensively, the Mean Green are led by Aleeyah Galdeira, who has tallied a team-best 181 digs, averaging 3.62 per set. The Mean Green are led by Truli Levy and Sh'Diamond Holly, who have both tallied 38 blocks, averaging 0.76 per set.
Series History
- North Texas leads the all-time series between the Owls and the Mean Green, 13-5. In Denton, the Mean Green holds a 5-2 advantage all-time, however the Owls earned a four-set victory in their last trip to Denton on Oct. 5, 2018. In the last meeting between the two teams, the Owls fell in straight sets against the Mean Green on Sept. 23, 2022, in Boca Raton.
