BOCA RATON, Fla. – Cross country season has arrived. Florida Atlantic's men's and women's teams will begin their 2023 campaign with the ninth annual FAU Invitational, their only home race of the season.

The race will once again be at the Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Owls are led by Head Coach
Alex Smolka, who enters his 19th year at the helm of both cross country teams.

Both teams saw success in last year's race, headlined by
Casey O'Connor finishing in second place in the 5K with a time of 18:22, the second-best time recorded by an Owl on the South County Regional Park course. O'Connor was joined by
Jordan Stevens and
Isabel O'Brien to round out the top 25. Overall, the women's team finished in fourth place.

The men's team saw two top 20 finishes, finishing in fifth overall with 111 points.

O'Connor, Stevens, and O'Brien are all returning to the Owls in 2023, along with
Holly Arrison,
Analise Davis,
Leah Helms,
Anabell Reumann,
Paige Saiz, and
Elyssa Toal.Â

Joining them are newcomers

Jessica Hatch,
Anna Rovirosa, and
Sofie Seifart.

The Owls will welcome back sophomore
Logan Sallas, who impressed in his freshman year by finishing as the team's top runner in every race he ran. Also returning are sophomores
Leonardi Lamour, Noah McGregor, and
William Nuneville.

Paul Glick,
Samuel Henery, and
Enrique Toro.

Following the race, Florida Atlantic will regroup in Gainesville for an NCAA preview meet on Friday, Sep. 15, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
