BOCA RATON, Fla. – After taking a 2-1 lead into the halftime break, the Florida Atlantic women's soccer team conceded a late goal in the 82nd minute to finish in a season-opening 2-2 draw against Arkansas Little Rock at FAU Football Stadium on Thursday.
The Owls struck first in the 7th minute as Elin Simonardottir notched Florida Atlantic's first goal of the season by tapping in a ball from Emmy Schleifer and Kaylin Johnston to put the Owls up 1-0.
Arkansas Little Rock responded to bring things even in the 25th minute, however the tie was short-lived as Elin Simondottir punched in her second goal of the night in the 28th minute off a ball from Michelle Horan and Sloane Young.
With just under 10 minutes to play, the Owls committed a tough foul at the very edge of the penalty box, giving the Trojans a chance to tie. Colleen Gilliland took the shot and punched in the game-tying goal through the right side of the net, just off the fingertips of Blythe Braun. The Owls tried to answer back on a shot in the 87th minute that was saved by the Trojans keeper, but Florida Atlantic ran out of time as the horn sounded to close out the 2-2 draw.
