BOCA RATON, Fla. – A successful season on the track correlates with a successful season off the track.
Madlen Kappeler and
Jessica Lambert have been named to the 2023 Conference USA Track & Field All-Academic Teams. Both are repeat winners, with this being the second honor for Lambert and third honor for Kappeler.Â
Â
Kappeler, graduate student from Vorderhindelang, Germany, has been a model student athlete for not just track & field, but also the entire Florida Atlantic athletic department in her five years as an Owl. Sporting a perfect 4.0 GPA for 2022-23, Kappeler is also a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and four-time Academic Medal recipient.
Â
In the indoor season, Kappeler earned the silver medal at the C-USA Championships in the 3000m with a time of 16:58.18, the second fastest time in Florida Atlantic history. She also set a personal best in the 5000m (9:43), also the second fastest in school history. Kappeler followed this up with an outdoor season featuring multiple daunting 10,000m runs, impressing in both and adding herself to the Florida Atlantic top 10 record book.
Â
Lambert, senior from Croydon, England, has put forth one of the most impressive seasons by an Owl, both indoor and outdoor, in recent memory. She earned the gold medal in the 800m in the indoor and outdoor C-USA championships, while setting the school record four times. She also set the Florida Atlantic record in the 500m and 600m and was part of the record setting distance medley relay team in the indoor season.
Â
As a Health Administration and Social Work major, Lambert boasts a 3.925 GPA.
Â
Now, Lambert looks toward the first round of the NCAA Regionals in Jacksonville, where she is the first Owl to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 2019. She will compete in the 800m semifinals on Thursday, May 25.
