BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 12
th-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team is set to open their 2023 season this weekend in DeLand, Florida as they compete in Stetson's season-opening tournament on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25.
The tournament field features FGCU, Mercer, UNF, and host Stetson. FAU begin their 2023 campaign against FGCU on Friday, Feb. 24 for an 8 a.m. first serve. FAU holds a 10-3 all-time lead against FGCU, including three wins, 4-1 on March 4, 5-0 on April 8, and 4-1 and on April 9 against the Eagles last season.
The Owls will then close out their opening day, taking on host Stetson at 2 p.m. The Owls are 7-11 all-time against the Hatters. Last season, FAU earned a pair of wins, defeating Stetson 3-2 on March 12 and 4-1 on March 26.
The Owls will then begin play on Saturday at 8 a.m. against Mercer, before closing out their season-opening weekend with a 12 p.m. first serve against UNF. FAU is 1-0 all-time against Mercer, earning their win over the Bears on Feb. 21, 2020. Against UNF, the Owls hold a 7-5 all-time lead, including a 3-0 win over the Ospreys last year on April 2.
Following their season-opening weekend, the Owls will return home as they open up their 2023 home slate hosting the FAU Beach Invitational on Friday, March 3 & Saturday, March 4 at the FAU Beach Volleyball Complex.
