BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team secured its first win of the 2023 campaign on Friday night, with a 10-2 thrashing of Stony Brook in five innings. The victory also marked the first for FAU head coach
Jordan Clark in her career.
The Owls wasted no time in grabbing command of tonight's game, putting up a four-spot on the board in the first inning.
Cammeo Presutti worked a leadoff walk, then
Jesiana Mora plated the first run of the night with an RBI triple to right center.
The next batter was
Sara Berthiaume, who worked an 11-pitch at bat that finished with a line drive RBI double to left center.
Olivia Peterson, the next batter launched a double off the right field wall that scored Berthiaume, and the rally continued with
Zoey Jones' RBI single up the middle that scored Peterson to make it 4-0.
FAU kept the pressure on Stony Brook, scoring one more in the second and two more in the third. The Owls ended it in the fifth, with three runs which was finished by an RBI sacrifice fly from Mora.
- The Owls' bats were on fire, scoring the 10 runs on 13 hits including six doubles and a triple
- Riley Olson led the way at the dish with a 3-3 night, with two doubles, an RBI and run scored
- Mora is off to a hot start to her collegiate career, as she is 4-7 at the plate with 3 RBI, two doubles, a triple and two runs scored
- Four Owls had multi-hit nights in Olson, Mora, Berthiaume and Zoey Jones
- Gabby Sacco got the win in her first start of the season, going four strong shutout innings with six strikeouts, and only two hits with one walk allowed
- Owl shortstop Sommer Baker went 1-2 with a two-RBI single and a walk
The Paradise Classic continues tomorrow, with two games on tap for FAU, the first being against Iowa at 2 p.m. and the second against Loyola at 7 p.m.
