BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls (19-12, 11-7 AAC) closed out their regular season on Friday, battling tough but falling in three against the South Florida Bulls (18-11, 12-6 AAC) inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
Following two Bulls points to open the second, Florida Atlantic scored four unanswered, capped off by
Lauryn Green's first kill of the day, to put the Owls up 4-2. USF answered with a 6-0 run to retake the lead 8-4. The Owls cut the deficit back to two, following a 4-2 run, but USF answered back with four-straight points to push the deficit back out to six, 14-8. The Owls tried to rally, but the Bulls just wouldn't budge as USF closed the second on a 11-8 run to take the set, 25-16, and lead the match 2-0.
The Owls scored two to open the third, 2-0, but the Bulls answered back to take the lead 8-5. USF committed four errors to help the Owls even things up at nine. The Owls then went on an 11-8 run to hold a 20-17 lead late in the set, but a 6-0 run for the Bulls put USF back in front, holding a 23-20 advantage. The Owls scored back-to-back points off a kill from Ru and a USF setting error, but USF secured the last two points to capture the third, 25-22, and close out the match, 3-0.
The Owls will hit the road for their regular season finale as they travel to New Orleans to take on the Tulane Green Wave on Wednesday, Nov. 22. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
