NEW ORLEANS, La. – Florida Atlantic volleyball (20-12, 12-7 AAC) wrapped up its 2023 regular season campaign, earning a straight-set sweep over the Tulane Green Wave (6-25, 2-17 AAC) on Wednesday.
The Owls sweep over the Green Wave marked their 20
th win of the season and is the most wins in a season for the Owls since the 2018 campaign. It also marks the second most wins for an Owl team under head coach
Fernanda Nelson.
Madison Dyer led the Owls offensively with 11 kills, while adding a team-leading five blocks and four digs.
Arianna Beckham and
Katelynn Robine also registered double-digit kills with 10 each. Beckham also finished with eight digs and two blocks, while Robine tallied three digs.
Victoria Hensley dished out a match-leading 37 assists and finished with a team-best 15 digs and added two blocks in the win.
Following a 3-2 Tulane lead, Florida Atlantic produced a 6-1 run to quickly take an 8-4 lead in the first. The Owls maintained a 12-7 advantage, before Tulane went on a 13-5 run to retake the lead, 20-17. However, the Owls battled back, outscoring the Green Wave 8-2 to close out the set 25-22 and take the 1-0 lead.
The Owls and Green Wave battled back-and-forth to open set two through a 15-15 stalemate. Tulane scored three unanswered to take the 18-15 lead, but the Owls answered back, scoring six unanswered to take a 21-18 lead. Tulane cut the Owls' lead to one at 21-22, but the Owls scored three on a pair of Green Wave errors and a service ace from
Raine Lynch to win 25-21 and take a two-set advantage.
A kill from Robine capped off a 5-0 Florida Atlantic run to open set three. The Owls continued to lead through a 10-7 advantage, but the Green Wave rallied on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the set, 13-10. Tulane held a 21-17 advantage late in the third, but however the Owls clutched up to outscore the Green Wave 10-4 over the remainder of the third to secure the 27-25 win and complete the Owls' 3-0 sweep.
