DALLAS – Florida Atlantic men's soccer saw its season ended on Thursday night with a 3-1 loss to Charlotte in the American Athletic Conference semifinals.
After a quiet first half hour from both teams offensively, the 49ers opened the scoring in the 34th minute. Goalkeeper
Rotem Fadida and CLT's Jonathan Nyandjo simultaneously went for a loose ball just outside the six-yard box. Nyandjo went to the ground and after a VAR review, the official awarded Charlotte a spot kick which Nyandjo converted.
The Owls tied it early in the second half.
Arthur Widiez redirected a
Sebastian Zettl corner for his first career goal. Charlotte responded almost immediately, however. Just over a minute after Widiez tied it, Brigham Larsen put the 49ers back in front. They would add a third goal in the dying seconds of the second half to seal the 3-1 final.
The Owls' season ends with a record of 6-8-3 including three wins over teams ranked or receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll.
