BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men's soccer (3-6-3, 2-4 AAC) hosts No. 14 FIU (8-2-3, 4-0-1 AAC) on Friday night at the FAU Soccer Stadium. The Owls currently hold the AAC's sixth and final postseason tournament spot with two conference matches left in the regular season.
Â
- The Owls are essentially in a battle for the sixth and final playoff spot with Temple and USF (both of whom have a game at-hand on the Owls).
- If the Owls can get three points against either FIU or USF they would move to 9 points. USF would likely need to win-out at that point. Temple's remaining schedule is a gauntlet: at Memphis (currently 4th place), vs. Tulsa (5th place), and at SMU (2nd place).
- Rotem Fadida leads the American in saves and saves per game. He's played every minute of every game this season.
Â
- FIU is trying to chase down Charlotte at the top of the AAC standings. The Panthers are two points back but have a game in-hand on the 49ers.
- Junior Eduardo Mustre has 18 points (eight goals, two assists). He's second in the AAC in shots (37).
- FIU is unbeaten in its last seven dating back to a 2-0 loss to No. 5 Akron on September 11.
- Their only blemish in conference play was a 2-2 draw against then-No. 3 SMU on October 8.
- FIU is the reigning AAC regular season champions.
Â
- When FAU and FIU met last season in the regular season finale, the Owls needed one point to secure a place in the AAC tournament. FIU needed a win to secure the AAC regular season title.
- The Panthers broke a scoreless tie in the 87th minute to steal a 1-0 victory.
- The Owls will celebrate senior night on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against FGCU. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
