DALLAS – Florida Atlantic volleyball junior
Sonte Stewart was named one of 11 Conference USA student-athletes to receive the C-USA Fall Spirit of Service Award, announced by the league office on Thursday.
The award is designed to recognize the league's student-athletes who contribute to the community through service project efforts, are in good academic standing and through participation in their respective sport. Today's recipients represent athletes who competed in the fall season: men and women's cross country, football, men and women's soccer and volleyball.
The Gilroy, Calif. native was named to the FAU All-Academic Team and has held a 3.0 GPA for three consecutive semesters.
Stewart posted the highest total community service hours of all fall sports student-athletes, participating in the Ukraine Food Pantry where she packaged food to be sent over to Ukraine. Stewart also took part in FAU's mental health week and contributed in the Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive.
On the court, Stewart played in 86 sets over 15 matches and made two starts for the Owls during the 2022 season. Stewart finished with 19 kills and 24 points, in addition to adding five assists and a pair of service aces. Defensively, Stewart recorded 26 digs and five blocks, and posted a .970 reception percentage, committing only one reception error during the 2022 campaign.
