BOCA RATON, Fla. – On Sunday afternoon, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team will return home to face Charlotte. The Conference USA match will kick at 1 p.m. at FAU Soccer Stadium.
- FAU is coming off a 1-0 defeat to Rice, who is undefeated in Conference USA play last time out
- The FAU Owls controlled the pace of the game with a 15-4 margin in shots and a 12-6 lead in corner kicks, yet the Rice Owls were the one who cashed in on their opportunity
- FAU has seen a trend of playing low-scoring, close games. Seven games have finished with one goal or less this season. In total, nine games have been decided by one goal or less, including the last five games
- FAU's defense is averaging a flat 1.00 goal per game against to rank fourth in C-USA
- The Owl back line has been led by Amanda Martin, Luisa Daikeler, Jodi Smith and Hailey Landrus
- The defenders have been workhorses this year, rarely coming off the pitch. Martin leads the team with 1,122 minutes played out of a possible 11,70 minutes, which is 95% of the total minutes
- Smith has recorded 1,053 minutes played (90% of possible minutes) while Landrus has tallied 1,016 (87%)
- Landrus has also created chances on the offensive end with three assists, which is tied for the team lead with Bri Austin
- Charlotte is looking for a three-game winning streak, with victories over Louisiana Tech and UTEP coming into today
- Tash Hudson leads the 49ers and is tied for third in C-USA in scoring with five goals
- FAU is 4-2-3 all-time against Charlotte
- The last meeting was a dramatic one last year. In the first round of the Conference USA Championship Tournament, the Owls outlasted the 49ers in penalty kicks to advance to the quarterfinals
- FAU took a 4-3 edge in penalty kicks
- These two teams tied in the regular season, 1-1, as well as the 2-2 tie in the conference tournament
