BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team will become the first FAU athletics program to compete as a member of the American Athletic Conference when they take on South Florida at home on Friday night.

- It was announced in May that FAU men's soccer and women's swimming and diving would become affiliate members of the American for the 2022-23 season
- The remaining 16 athletic programs will join the conference full-time in 2023-24
- The AAC is the fifth conference FAU men's soccer has been a part of since moving to Division I in 1993 (TAAC 1993-2001, ASUN 2002-2007, MAC 2008-2012, C-USA 2013-2021)
- UAB, FIU, and Charlotte also joined the AAC from Conference USA this season
- This is the first of three in a row at home for the Owls – six home games remain in total for this season
- The Owls will play just two more regular season games outside the state of Florida (at Tulsa, at Memphis)
- The Owls are coming off a trip to upstate New York last weekend where they were held in check by Army and Marist, each ending in a score of 2-0
- Graduate senior Axel Hofmann made the start in goal in both games and performed well with five saves against Army and three against Marist
- USF picked up their first win of the season last Friday against Mercer (2-0)
- The Bulls also scored their first goal of 2022 in that match after being held off the board for nearly 400 minutes to start the season
- USF has a draw with FGCU in addition to losses against No. 24 UNC, Marquette, and No. 2 Washington
- The Bulls went 6-7-2 overall last season with a 4-5-1 record in AAC play
- FAU and USF have only met once in the last 12 seasons – the Bulls won 4-1 in Tampa in 2018
- USF leads the all-time series 12-3-2
- Six of the 17 meetings have gone to overtime – something that is no longer in play for the regular season
- Nine meetings have been decided by one goal or fewer
- The Owls will have a quick turnaround when they face North Florida in a non-conference matchup at home on Tuesday
- AAC play resumes next Saturday night at home against UAB
