BOCA RATON, Fla. –
Kevin Huempfner, a junior on the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team, has been named Conference USA men's tennis Player of the Week, announced by the league today. His efforts also were instrumental in the Owls moving up to a No. 43 national ranking in this week's poll.
Huempfner leads the Owls, playing either No. 1 or No. 2, with a 20-7 record overall and a 14-4 dual match record this season. His doubles record stands at 20-6 overall and 13-5 in dual match competitions. Last week, the German led FAU on a three-day, three-match road swing through Louisiana and Alabama.
He picked up a victory at Tulane, 6-1, 6-4 and at South Alabama 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5, but fell at a ranked Louisiana. His doubles play continued to be outstanding, winning each of the three matches played. All three matches were on court one.
Huempfner leads the Owls with a 17-5 record which is the program's best winning percentage under the direction of
Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's Director of Tennis. The 17 wins are two shy of the program's highest win total, with the C-USA Championship yet to play, since Gonzalez took the team's helm.
The Owls will next prepare for the C-USA Championship, which is scheduled for April 22-24 and will be played at Old Dominion.
