BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis team made the largest leap of any NCAA Division I poll with a move to No. 47 after defeating three ranked teams last week. The Owls will put that ranking on the line when the team plays host to their final home mach of 2022 on Saturday, April 2 versus Conference USA member Southern Miss. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m. The afternoon's match versus Georgia Southern has been canceled due to expected bad weather.
Saturday morning's match will be an opportunity for the Owls to close out the 2022 season perfect record at home. It also will be an opportunity to honor graduate student
Carles Sarrio, who has made many of those wins possible.
Sarrio has played on either court one or two for much of the season and can claim wins over UNC-Wilimgton, Georgia State and C-USA foe Old Dominion, just last week. He has worked with two doubles partners this season and has built a doubles record of 13-5 on the year and a 9-5 record in dual matches. He and his partner,
Hunter Robbins, have been nationally ranked much of the season and are currently No. 79.
FAU is led by
Finn Stodder (12-2 on the year),
Alvaro Fernandez Horta (12-3 record) and
Kevin Huempfner (11-3). With a win on Saturday,
Gerard Escandell could move into the double-digit win club.
Southern Miss is riding a five-match winning streak heading into their Boca Raton match and are 9-7 overall.
