BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University's women's tennis is on a five-match winning streak, holds a perfect 4-0 record at home and their 8-6 record among competitive teams is strong enough to earn a No. 70 national ranking by ITA.
All of that will be on the line this weekend when the Owls play host to Virginia Commonwealth, VCU, on Friday, March 11. FAU will have a quick turnaround facing Boston University the following day. The Owls sixth match in 13 days will follow on Sunday, March 13 versus Houston. All three matches are scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
The Owls' roster claims just two upperclassmen and have seen the steady improved play of five freshmen. In recent weeks, it is the play and ability to score points of
Lexi Silna. Silna has won her last five singles matches, only one pushed to three sets and that was versus Missouri. She has won each of the last four doubles matches, playing with two different partners.
Silna holds an 8-3 singles record and fellow freshman
Millie-Mae Matthews also has eight wins opposed to five losses. Upperclassmen
Martina Kudelova and
Katerina Filip are playing on courts one and two, respectively. Both have seven wins on the year. Kudelova is 7-6, while Filip is 7-3.
