BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team broke into the nation's spotlight this week, and on Friday morning, the No. 70th-ranked Owls proved they belong with a 5-2 win over No. 56 VCU.

The win moves FAU's home-match winning streak to 5-0, their overall winning streak to six and the team's 2022 record to 9-6. VCU dropped to 11-3 on the season.

The Owls saw VCU take the doubles point, but FAU came out of the gates battling in singles. FAU used experienced leadership to take courts one and two with Martina Kudelova securing the match for the Owls on court one in three sets. Katerina Filip was the first to come off the courts, on Friday, with a straight set win that evened the match at 1-1.

Then, it was all the freshman with four of the five securing their match, including Amber McGinnis, who concluded the day with her teammates and all the fans encouraging her efforts in the back-and-forth battle. McGinnis captured her first set 7-6 (7-5) and her second set 7-5. The Pompano Beach, Florida native was on the court for the 3:40 contest representing FAU in both doubles and singles.
