LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming & diving team finished as runners-up in the CCSA Championships. The second-place finish marks the second year in a row that the Owls have taken second place. FAU ended with 903.5 points, while Incarnate Word took home the title with 1,046.
Despite the second-place finish, the Owls took home two major awards.
Rateb Hussein was named Performer of the Meet, while
Timo Paisley earned Freshman of the Meet honors. This marks the second year in a row that the Owls have won those two major awards.
The FAU 400 free relay squad won the conference title and broke the FAU school record in the process. The squad of
Alec Peckmann, Hussein,
Peter Tanner, Jr., and
Logan Thornsberry swam a 2:56.46. That topped the record the Owls set of 2:58.57 earlier this season.
Hussein capped off his sensational weekend with another conference title, this time in the 100 free. His time of 43.78 was .3 seconds off FAU's school record, set by Matthieu Burtez in 2015. Hussein also achieved another NCAA B Cut, which was his second of the weekend, in addition to his third individual conference crown.
Peckmann also achieved his second conference championship of this weekend on Saturday. The senior swam a 1:59.97 in the 200 breast which is, less than a second off of FAU's school record of 1:59.31 from Travis Howard in 2003.
Also landing on the podium today was
Timo Paisley, who placed third in the mile with a time of 15:38.00.
Brandon Shepherd captured third place in the 3-meter dive to claim the bronze medal. Shepherd dove to a score of 320.45.
Next up for FAU is the women's Conference USA Championship, next week from Feb. 23-26.
