BOCA RATON, Fla. – On Friday night, the Florida Atlantic University softball team was defeated by Indiana by a final score of 11-1 in five innings.
The game was the Owls' third in the FAU First-Pitch Classic. The action continues all weekend, and FAU will take on Northern Illinois tomorrow in the last of five games. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

How It Happened
- Indiana took the lead in the first at bat when Cora Bassett delivered a leadoff opposite-field home run
- The Hoosiers took a 2-0 lead after the first, then hung a six-spot in the second to garner an 8-0 lead. The big blow came from a grand slam off the bat of Brittany Ford
- Donnie Gobourne, the starting pitcher, earned her first RBI of the year with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Her sac fly to center field scored Maddie Carlock, who pinch hit a few batters earlier and delivered a base knock to the left side
- Lynn Gardner entered in relief of Gobourne in the second inning. Gardner went 3.1 innings and struck out five batters while allowing four earned runs. The senior left-hander only walked two
- Ashley Stephenson finished off the game in the circle for the Owls
- Zoey Jones collected a base hit, going 1-1 at the dish
