BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the first time in program history Florida Atlantic University men's tennis was represented at the ITA Fall National Tournament. The doubles duo of Nicolas Acevedo and
Filip Krolo completed the month with a 6-1 record and their efforts have earned Conference USA Players of the Month.
Acevedo joined the team in August, after transferring from Wichita State. He teamed with returner Krolo in the Owls' first tournament of the Fall, the ITA Southeast Regional, hosted by Florida State. The duo downed #13 Balte/Ribara (UF) 8-3. They then downed #12 Dan Martin/Juan Martin Jalif (Miami) 8-7(5), followed by #10 Jonah Braswell/Lasgreif (UF) 6-3, 7-6 (6) and ultimately #1 Trent Bryde/Philip Henning (UGA) 3-6, 7-6(2), 10-8. In singles play, both left Tallahassee with a record of 1-1.
Following the Owls' first competition of the Fall 2022 season, the duo was 5-0. Last weekend, Acevedo and Krolo traveled to the ITA Fall National Tournament in San Diego, California. In the tournament's opening round, Acevedo and Krolo defeated Idaho's Francisco Bascon/Matteo Masala 6-4, 6-4, moving to 6-0. The dynamic duo fell to Jake Bass/Jua Grassi Mazzuchi in the round of 16, ending an outstanding run for the new pair.
Acevedo and Krolo have reunited with their teammates, who were competing in the Bedford Cup, to continue practice throughout the Fall and will concentrate on academics until the semester's end. The Owls will return in January to play host to Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 14, which will be the season and home opener.
