BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Owls (13-7, 3-5 C-USA) continue their road swing on Sunday as they head to Birmingham, Alabama to take on the UAB Blazers (9-11, 4-4 C-USA) at 2 p.m. ET inside Bartow Arena.
- The Owls enter this weekend with an 13-7 overall record and a 3-5 mark in C-USA play.
- Sunday's match marks the season's first rematch as FAU faces UAB for the second time in two weeks. The Owls earned the five-set victory, reverse sweeping the Blazers in the two team's previous meeting.
- The Owls earned their first C-USA sweep of the season, earning a 3-0 victory against the LA Tech Lady Techsters on Friday.
- Head coach Fernanda Nelson is in her 11th season leading the Owls and has accumulated a 152-133 record throughout her time in Boca Raton.
- As a team, the Owls are hitting for .228 and are averaging 13.3 kills and a C-USA-leading 12.6 assists per set. Defensively, FAU is averaging 13.8 digs per set and 1.9 blocks per set. The Owls also lead Conference USA and rank fourth in the nation in aces per set, averaging 2.0.
- The Owls are led by sophomore trio Valeria Rosado, Katelynn Robine, and Klara Zarnovicka who have registered 3.46, 2.85, and 2.53 kills per set, respectively. Rosado's team-leading kills per set also ranks her sixth in Conference USA.
- Fellow sophomore and Owls' setter Noelle Stephens as dished out a team-leading 644 assists, averaging 9.07 per set.
- Senior Camryn Vogler anchors the Owls' backline, averaging 3.62 digs per set, while Rosado has tallied a team second-best 2.54 digs pet set.
- Junior Alicia Hearn, senior Lauryn Green, and Zarnovicka have been the Owls leading blockers, posting 0.80, 0.79, and 0.64 blocks per set, respectively.
- The Owls picked up their first C-USA sweep of the season on Friday, earning a dominant 3-0 win over the LA Tech Lady Techsters. FAU rallied in the opening set, outscoring the Lady Techsters 8-1 to secure a 27-25 win, before controlling the second and third set, picking up a pair of 25-20 wins to secure the straight-set sweep.
- UAB enters Sunday's contest at 9-11 overall and with a 4-4 record in conference play.
- Head coach Betsy Freeburg is in her third year leading the Blazers and has collected a 28-33 (.459) record at UAB.
- As a team, the Blazers are hitting .221 and average 12.7 kills per set and 11.9 assists per set. Defensively, the Blazers rank second in C-USA with 15.5 digs per set and are recording 2.0 blocks per set this season.
- The Blazers are led by Fernanda Maida, Alex Kells, and Maia Rackel on the attack. Maida paces the team with 3.67 kills per set, while hitting a .215 clip. Kells and Rackel are averaging 3.17 and 3.06 kills per set, respectively. Setter Lidya Canturk averages 9.81 assists per set and has directed the Blazer offense to a .221 attacking percentage as a team. Defensively, UAB is anchored by libero Erin Powers, who leads the team with 4.53 digs per set. At the net, Chloe Rodriguez has posted a team-leading 53 blocks, averaging 0.79 per set, while Kiana Mack boasts a team-leading 0.85 blocks per set with 46 total blocks this season.
FAU leads the all-time series 7-1 against UAB. The Owls hold a perfect 3-0 record at Bartow Arena and have won seven straight contests against the Blazers, dating back to Oct. 3, 2014. In their last meeting just two weeks ago, the Owls earned a five-set reverse sweep victory over the UAB Blazers on Oct. 9 inside FAU Arena.
FAU returns to Boca Raton on Oct. 28 as they host rival FIU for their first matchup of 2022. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at FAU Arena.
