BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University men's soccer fell 1-0 to Temple on Friday night at home. The Owls are 3-6-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the American Athletic Conference.
FAU controlled possession and had the better opportunities to score in the first half but could not capitalize. They would out-chance the visiting Owls 8-3 in the first 45 minutes. The run of play continued early in the second half.
Temple would break the deadlock in the 70th after FAU committed a turnover in its own half. Sean Karani beat goalkeeper Neil Strauber to the left post with a shot from just outside the penalty area.
The defensive battle raged on in the final 20 minutes. Florida Atlantic would finish with an 18-8 edge in shots attempted but the shots on goal category was far closer at 6-5. Ultimately, Temple held the edge where it mattered most on the final scoreline.
Strauber finished with five saves. Victor Claudel, Leo Keller, and Tom Abrahamsson each attempted three shots. Abrahamsson was responsible for two of the Owls six SOG.
Three AAC matches remain on the schedule, but the Owls will take a brief step out of conference play on Tuesday when they visit Florida Gulf Coast at 7 p.m. They'll travel to Memphis next Saturday before returning home for senior night against SMU on October 28.
